Google+ for Businesses: Is it worth it?

November 28th, 2011 By { Jordan }  |  No Comments »

Google+ debuted to much fanfare a few months ago, beginning first in “super-exclusive” beta mode that led to a chaotic public interest. When Google+ went completely live to the public, people flocked to the new social media service to create their new profiles, and stake their claim in this new social media “frontier”.

Now, Google+ has decided to include a Business option, much like Facebook Pages for businesses. We decided to measure this new business social media tool against the obvious competitor, Facebook, and came up with a few pros and cons. Consider our lists below before signing your business up for Google+.

Pros of Google+ for businesses:

  • Search results: Google+ is (obviously) better suited for SEO impact. Content posted on a Google+ page, as well as “recommended” through Google+ are an instant shoe-in for search engines results on Google. This is especially true if the person searching also has a Google+ account.
  • Communication: Google Hangout would be an ideal way to have conference calls with staff, or even clients, from literally anywhere. You can do a Hangout session with a specific Circle, so your business could create a Circle for Staff, as well as temporarily create a Circle for a certain client that they want to have a conference call with.
  • Google+ button: You can place a Google+ button on your website, to 1) encourage visitors to join you on Google+, and 2) to “recommend” your content on Google.

Cons of Google+ for businesses:

  • Not as widespread as Facebook: Google+ is still technically a “newbie” to the social media world, so not as many of your clients will be on it. In time, this will probably change, but for now, this shouldn’t be considered a reliable way to connect with clients.
  • Not as many options as Facebook: There are many updates on the horizon for Google+, like a shopping cart capability for Business Google+ pages, but for now, the profile on Google+ is very basic. Facebook offers you much more customization.
So what do you think? Are you ready to introduce your business to the Google+ world? If so, let us know what you think! And don’t forget to add us on Google+.

Have you SEO-ed your website lately?

Have you SEO-ed your website lately?

We get a lot of questions about SEO [Search Engine Optimization] and we thought we could continue some of our conversations with our blog since I am sure that there are more people out there that have questions. A majority of the conversations start because a sales person called stating “I can get you on the first page of Google!” And with our current economic climate, we are all leery of statements like this. There are SEO companies who offer back-link building as a monthly service, and though it is a part of SEO, it’s not the only or most important part.

At Rock, Paper, Scissors we make sure your website is, first and foremost, optimized for a user to 1) have a great experience and 2) know that when they see you in search engine results, YOU’RE the result they want.

Product Review: Google +1

No, this isn’t an article on Google’s significant other. But what we are talking about is Google’s next significant update, the +1 feature. In its vigilant pursuit of becoming more like a social network, Google has been quietly making advances in the areas of social networking and sharing. Google +1 is their latest, and potentially greatest, feature

The Trademark Process Improved

April 26th, 2011 By { Cindy }  |  No Comments »

USPTO makes trademarking easier.

For those of you who know me well, it’s no surprise that I don’t believe the federal government does anything very well. Yes, I am a bit jaded but here is the point: I think I have finally found something they did well and I am ready to yell it from the roof tops.
